Ordered a Raspberry Pi HQ camera module, and it arrived:

here is an “external” view of the setup, with the camera module attached to a tripod.  The rasperry pi (4) is just below out of site.

ran a simple loop with raspistill, then used ffmpeg to string the pictures into the video above.
note: due to the setup, had to use a very small opening in the camera to get as many in focus as possible (otherwise just one row was clear and the rest very blurry).  so the image is very dark with defaults.  had to use a longer exposure for each picture; but this is ok, since we are taking only one picture a few times per minute.  Above is about 10 hours of growth…
